Our neighborhood Athens, Greece

In the heart
of Athens.

Our school sits on Ermou pedestrian street, between Monastiraki and Syntagma—surrounded by the stories, streets and everyday life of the city.

A sixth-floor school. A city-sized classroom.

Athens is on
the lesson plan.

Lexi-Logos Greek Language and Culture Center is in the historic center of Athens, on Ermou pedestrian street between Monastiraki and Syntagma squares.

Syntagma—with its landmark Greek Parliament—is an epicenter of modern life, commerce and politics. Ermou is a busy, vivid pedestrian street of fashion shops and shopping centers, listed among Europe’s top five shopping streets. In a small square along it stands Panaghia Kapnikarea, one of Athens’ oldest Byzantine churches. Our school is in the building right in front.

From here, the Acropolis, Parthenon and Erechtheion rise above a city full of museums, monuments and theaters—traces of Athens’ glorious past and present.

01

Syntagma & the gardens

A few steps take you to Syntagma Square and the Parliament. Admire the grand royal and municipal buildings designed by Ziller, then wander through the National Garden and Zappeion.

Modern Athens, close by
02

The Acropolis & beyond

Visit the Acropolis Museum, the Theater of Dionysus and the Herodes Atticus Odeon. The Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch and Panathenaic Stadium—where the first modern Olympic Games took place—are an easy walk through the gardens.

Ancient Athens, all around
03

Monastiraki & old Athens

Find Hadrian’s Library, the Ancient Agora and restored Stoa of Attalos. Browse the outdoor market for traditional goods, handmade Greek sandals, jewelry and artifacts, or visit the famous flea market on Sunday morning. Cafés and tavernas overlook the Acropolis; Plaka, Anafiotika, Psyrri and Keramikos are nearby.

Get lost in the good way
04

Thiseio & the hills

Nearby Philopappos and Pnyx hills, the Temple of Hephaestus and Thiseio invite a longer walk. Thiseio takes its name from the temple, once mistakenly linked to Theseus. Its neoclassical buildings, cafés, cultural meeting points and wide pedestrian street make it one of the city’s liveliest neighborhoods.

Take the scenic route

Across from Monastiraki metro, the restored Turkish Mosque now houses a traditional ceramic museum. Wander the pedestrian streets and let the ancient and modern city meet you along the way.
